Obituary of Elizabeth O’Sullivan

Elizabeth O’Sullivan Elizabeth (Betty) passed away unexpectedly on June 30 at Columbia Presbyterian Allen Pavilion Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born in New York City on May 9, 1947 and graduated from Good Shepherd School. She graduated from Cathedral High as did her mother and her two older sisters. She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, NY in 1969. She then completed two Masters Degrees at City College of New York including Special Education degree. She worked as a Special Education Teacher for 40 years. In this capacity she received the Teacher of the Year Award for the City of New York in May of 1987. She taught her student’s with love, patience, and humor. Her colleagues had the utmost respect for the successful results she achieved with her students. Because of her teaching skill, new teachers often sought her advice. Betty loved to travel and during her summer vacation she went on fabulous travel tours arranged by the Teachers’ Association. She was a true New Yorker and loved the cultural advantages NY offered. She visited the museums often and loved Broadway plays. She and her beloved Matt used to host many happy family holiday dinners and gatherings. An avid reader like all her family, Betty kept us and her friends abreast of the latest good books. She is survived by her beloved Matt, her siblings Thomas, Helene, Susanne and Robert; her nieces and nephews Susan, Lisa, Robert, Christopher and Thomas and three grand nieces. Betty will be dearly missed by all her family and friends who knew her and loved her.
