My Thea Angie and Uncle Pete were beautiful people inside and out. They were generous, intelligent and loving members of my family who eventually became my second “ mom” and “dad” when my own parents died years later. My aunt treated my brother and me with complete love and acceptance and always baked a pound cake for me when I visited which was often. Mary, Carrie, myself and our spouses and children would gather at their well worn kitchen table plotting our trips to New York City with the understanding that my Uncle Pete would rush my husband and me often with Carrie and sometimes Chris to the Central Ave bus stop or the Scarsdale train station for another adventure in the city. Every morning when staying at my aunt’s and uncle’s home in Yonkers, we would have buttered Italian toast with Greek feta, olives, eggs and hot tea or coffee. It was a semiannual ritual throughout my adult life. My children were loved and fussed over in that home. My Aunt Angie was the most gracious woman I knew. My Uncle Pete loved to play the scoundrel incessantly teasing me about being pescatarian and “didn’t my kids need a nice roast “ or a dish of endives ( probably the only vegetable besides potatoes that I didn’t eat). But they were lovely loving people who left an indelible mark on the lives they touched. I will always love the memories I have of my Aunt and Uncle as I continue to love their children.
