Obituary of Monica Batista

Monica Batista, 95, of Dumont, NJ; departed this life at 5:12 PM, Monday, October 9th, 2017 at The Villa Marie Claire Residence, Saddle River, NJ. She was born May 4th, 1923 in the Village of La Torre (La Vega) Dominican Republic, born to Dolores Fernandes and Leopoldo Grullon. She married also since departed, Ludovino Batista on December, 1944. Surviving are her children, Agustin (Tin), Mercedes (Chede), Nancy, Rafael (Fey), Maria (Maro), Carmen, Santiago (Chago), Maria Del Pilar (Pilo), Milagros (Lago), Maria (Nina) and Glenys, her brothers Agustin, Obidio (Cando), Julio and sister Ana. Let’s not leave out her football-size roster of grandchildren - 54! Monica was a long time resident of New York/New Jersey where she lived since leaving her childhood home in the Dominican Republic at the age of 50. She was a devout Catholic who regularly practiced her faith through heavy church involvement, daily actions of compassion and philanthropy for those less fortunate. Her favorite pastime was watching baseball with her husband. So much so, that friends and family remember her cheering on her NY Mets during the 1986 World Series while praying the Rosary - which we are certain is what pulled their victory. However, Monica’s truest passion and dedication in life was raising her children and helping those in need in her village. The visitation is from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Riverdale Funeral Home. A special dedicated mass will follow the next morning October 13, 2017 at 9:00 AM at St. Judes' Catholic Church. The burial will immediately follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
