Obituary of John Stratigeas

John Stratigeas was born in Magoula Sparta, Greece. At the age of 19, he strived for a better life and courageously immigrated to the United States to seek out opportunities for his parents and siblings. He arrived in New York City in 1960 and started working as a dishwasher during the day while going to school to learn English at night. John met a beautiful, young woman named Mary on November 1st 1962. They married on January 27th 1963. John managed to bring his parents and five siblings from Greece and Canada to the United States. John continued to excel in the restaurant business learning from the best chefs in New York City and went on to open up several restaurants throughout Yonkers, N.Y. and The Bronx. John and his wife Mary raised 4 children, who went on to bless them with 16 grandchildren. Throughout his life he battled diabetes and the complications from this disease. John embodied the Spartan spirit because he never complained about his sickness, just worked diligently to provide for his family. John loved to sing, dance, cook and even learned how to play the bouzouki at 66 years of age. John, a dignified and respectful man, impacted many lives, most importantly his immediate family who will try to emulate his mental fortitude and Spartan will.
