Please share a memory of Connie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Connie Mellides, 68, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, April 25, 2014. Born in Piraeus, Greece, and residing in Delray Beach, Florida, Connie exuded strength and courage from the day she immigrated to the US in 1955 to her years battling cancer. Now at peace, she is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, George Mellides, her parents (Frank and Labia Zoulia) her three loving children (Stacey Hawley, Evan Mellides and Lauren Venekas), their spouses (Sean Hawley, Amy Mellides and Dimitri Venekas), her five grandchildren (Katelyn, Ashley and Stephen Hawley and Maura and Alaina Mellides). She is also survived by her sister, Marina Mairagas, her two brothers, Steve and John Doumanis and many nieces and nephews. A role model for others, Connie’s love for her family, her career as a real estate agent, tennis, her church and her community carried her through life. Connie will be missed deeply and remembered for her deep pride as a Greek American that she exemplified through her continuous involvement in Church organizations, events and philanthropy. The viewing will be held at Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Avenue Wyckoff, New Jersey on Friday, May 2 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9. The funeral will take place at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 467 Grand View Avenue Wyckoff, NJ on Saturday, May 3 at 9:30 and she will be laid to rest at the Wyckoff Dutch Reform Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Robert L. Fine Cancer Research Laboratory Foundation or the Hellenic Relief Fund.
