Obituary of Steven Pappas

Steven Pappas of Westwood, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 24, 2020, after a battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia. He was born to John and Maria Papadopoulos in 1932 in Athens, Greece. He survived poverty and German occupied Greece during WWII. An accomplished engineer, he came to America in 1959 with $18 in his pocket and not a word of English in his vocabulary. In 1959, he met his wife, Anna. They lived in the Bronx before moving to Westwood, where they raised their four children, and welcomed them and their families on many occasions. Steven had a forty year career as an engineer, as well as starting and running a successful refrigeration business. He loved his family and his job, and was one of the most compassionate and generous people on earth. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna, his daughter, Maria Katechis and her husband Hercules, his daughter Julie DePinto and her husband Saverio (Sonny), his son John Papadopoulos and his wife Tonia, and his son Dimitrios Papadopoulos and fiancé Kristin Gaub and her daughters Ariana and Gwyneth. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his grandchildren John-Luke, Angela, Dennis, Vincent, Steven, Zachary, Sofia and JoAnna. He will be missed by all who loved him. In light of the current health situation, funeral services for Steven will be limited to family and immediate relatives. A memorial will be held in the near future.
