Obituary of Ekaterini Mouzakis

Ekaterini (Drakopoulou) Mouzakis died July 27th, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born July 1, 1923 in Lixouri, Kefalonia, Greece, she arrived in NYC on Independence Day 1960. She was a retired teacher and then co-owner of Lorraine Bake Shop located in the Inwood section of Manhattan 1965-1985. Ekaterini (Kakia) touched many lives and will be missed. Before her diagnosis, Kakia was a dynamic woman who always worked towards self-improvement and valued integrity and loyalty. She taught herself languages and loved learning new things. Beloved wife of the Late Christos Mouzakis, she is survived by her daughters, Georgia Mouzakis Tavlarios and Stephanie Mouzakis Smith, grandchildren, James and Sophia and Son-in-Law Robert Smith and Michael Wise. She has nieces and nephews in Greece. She is also survived by her sisters, Eleni, Constantina, Maria and her good friend and care giver, Helen Maniotis. May her memory be eternal. Her visitation will take place on Monday, July 30th from 5-9 PM at the Riverdale Funeral Home 5044 Broadway (@ 214th Street), NYC. Her funeral service will be held at the St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 124 Wadsworth Avenue, NYC on Tuesday, July 31st at 9:30AM with the burial following at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, Long Island.
