Obituary of John Golan

John Golan also known affectionately as Yannie by his wife, 97, of New York, NY, passed away on May 31, 2013 of natural causes. The viewing and funeral service will be held at Riverdale Funeral Home at 5044 Broadway, New York, NY on June 3, 2013. A service will follow the viewing at 1 PM. Visitation will be held at 11:30 AM at Riverdale Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Rosehills Memorial Park at approximately 2:30 PM. John was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 13, 1915. He arrived in NY at the age of 1-1/2 years arriving through Ellis Island with his parents and lived for most of his youth on the lower east side of New York. John was married to Edna on January 24, 1942; they were married a total of 62 years until she passed in 2004. In his early years he worked for the WPA and CCC under President Roosevelt’s work programs. He was a WWII veteran and served proudly for 3-1/2 years in the European theatre. John worked as a public address technician for Muzak for 20 years followed by Executone of NY for another 20 years as their service manager. He enjoyed stamp collecting, travelling, music and his grandchildren. He was also actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 238 in the Bronx for over 20 years. In 2012 he received his 50th year award as a member of Local 3, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was the secretary of the “H” division. He also served as the treasurer for his retirees chapter for over 15 years. John is survived by his three children, his 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his wife Edna and his siblings Bebe, Angelo, Josie & Manny. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Isabella House or to a charity of your choice.
