Obituary of Isabel Lopez

Isabel Lopez Garcia, 87, of New York City, was called to her celestial home on Monday, October 1, 2018. She was born in Granada, España, one of 9 children, to Hermenegildo Perez and Carmen Garcia. A devout Catholic, she traveled to Cuba on Missionary work at age 18. While there, she married Pedro L. Lopez and started a family. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1968. She lived in Manhattan the rest of the life. Isabel was devoted to her family, her catholic faith and her church, Our Lady of Lourdes. An active member of various church and charity groups, she often volunteered her time and cooking skills to serve the less fortunate. She marched for causes dear to her heart. She loved cooking, eating paella and sweets, gardening, opera music, telenovelas, los Yankees, and wrestling. She sang opera with an angelic Soprano voice. Hers was usually the loudest voice you heard in the church choir. She loved traveling, being outdoors, going update to watch the changing of the leaves in autumn and picking fruit. Isabel is preceded in death by her husband Pedro L. Lopez and daughter-in-law Patricia Lopez. She is survived by her children, Pedro. P. Lopez, Maria Lopez-Bernstein, and Hermenegildo Lopez; grandchildren Daniel, Elizabeth, Pedro J., Christian, and Brendan Lopez; great-grandson Stephan Lopez; daughter-in-law Brenda Lopez and son-in-law Robert Bernstein. She has many family members in Spain as well. On September 1, 2018, she was diagnosed with cancer and sadly, succumbed just one month after. She will be greatly missed by her family and many others.
