Obituary of Araxe Sookikian

Araxe Sookikian, formerly of New York City, passed away on August 29, 2017, three days shy of her 92nd birthday on September 1. She leaves behind her brother, Vahram Sookikian of Waltham, Mass., her sister-in-law, Helen Sookikian, her niece, Linda Eckersley of Boxborough, Mass., and her nephew, Steven Sookikian of Waltham, Mass. Also great nephews Justin and Christopher Eckersley and Julian O. Sookikian and great great nephew Julian Sookikian. Daughter of Aghavny Calionjian Sookikian and Oskian Sookikian, she was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. During World War II, Araxe moved with her parents and brother to Manhattan, where she lived in Washington Heights until 2014 when she relocated to Tenafly, N.J. Araxe was a beloved and trusted employee of Mutual of America her entire working career. In her free time she was a very active volunteer for the Eastern Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Camp Haiastan at www.camphaiastan.org or www.stilluminators.org . Services to be held at St. Illuminators with visiting hour starting 10:30 and church service to follow.
