I am Dave's cousin David Eyre from the Spokane WA area. I only learned of David's passing yesterday. Here is tribute I wrote this morning on my Facebook page.
Recently I have been updating my 2012 book on family history with new info on births, deaths, marriages etc. The book was "Times is Good Here and We Be Alrite". Just yesterday I learned that the last remaining grandchild of John and Harriet Cook - David R Gurr passed away Feb 26, 2020. I had last communicated with Dave in 2019 when I sent him a revised copy of my book as a pdf file.
Dave was an invaluable source of information for my book. In July 2007 I started getting boxes of photos that Dave was sending to me from his home in L.A. This continued for a few months. In addition he was emailing me all the time with personal stories and recollections of Cook family history.
On the last page of my book, (which was a chapter covering David Gurr), I said, "As I mentioned earlier in this book, my history of john and Harriet Cook would not have been possible without the assistance of David Gurr. As I bring this book to a close, my heartfelt thanks goes out to Dave."
Here are a few photos of Dave throughout the years. There is a big gap between his senior high school photo and then when he is nearly 70. God's love and peace be with you Dave.
