Obituary of Luis Alberto Vinas

New York – Luis Alberto Viñas, 82, died on Tuesday April 17, 2019 in the comfort of his home following a brief illness. He was preceded by his son Melvyn Neville Viñas. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Elsa Huck deViñas, his daughter Sandy Viñas deRuggiero, his son-in-law Gino Ruggiero and step granddaughter Gracie Ruggiero, and many close friends. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the son of Spanish immigrants, Mr. Viñas served two years of mandatory military conscription. In his early years before his military service, he worked in sales and delivery at various companies. After his mandatory service, he went onto work at the Phillips Electronics Company where he served as a quality control engineer. While working full time during the day he attended night school to become an electrical engineer. Mr. Viñas moved to the United States with his wife in 1968 and settled down in New York City. He worked at several restaurants and clubs as both a bartender and waiter. A few of the places he worked were: Cornell Club, NYU Club, Mario Villa d’Este, The Recess Club, and The Blueprint just to name a few. Mr. Viñas had a passion for futbol and loved both his Argentina National Team as well as Barcelona FC.; he was also an avid fan of Boca Juniors Futbol club, New York City Football Club, where he was a Founding Member and a season ticket holder, and the Buffalo Bills. He was an avid reader and enjoyed learning new ideas, concepts and about new technology. A funeral service will be held on April 22 at Our Lady of Lourdes in NYC, followed by a private burial.
