In lieu of flowers family requests donations to Holy Trinity Restoration Fund in New Rochelle. Nikki and Demetra would like to express their gratitude to their devoted family, loyal friends, compassionate colleagues, and caring neighbors here and around the world for their constant concern, support and kindness during the past several very sad, difficult, exhausting and emotional years. As we gather together tomorrow at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, family and friends will simultaneously gather together at a very beautiful Monastery in Samos, Greece Megali Panaghia in Tinos Aghios Dionysios , and the Original Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem , Israel to pray and mourn with us. Additionally a gathering of remembrance will be held in Shanghai, China. Most of us saw George as a humble, proper, meticulous, dignified, loyal, patient, dependable, an intellectual and cultured man. Yet, few of us knew he was a world-renowned , prize winning industrial designer whose designs are being used in offices around the world today. As a young designer, one of his early designs was recognized by the Museum of Modern Art and is part of there permanent design collection. In the days prior to his death, with great difficulty, he was attempting to complete his final design. George was a connoisseur of gourmet foods, fine wines, desserts of all sorts, honey, Chinese teas and Nikki's recipes!! He was a devotee of rebetika, mousiki, greek poetry, Byzantine Music and Raki. He was an avid collector of Chinese Art, model Trains, Cameras, lithographs, and Pearls. Of late, George had become a veracious reader of WW2 history. He was a lover of Porsche's, sailboats, masterpiece theater, serious off-Broadway theater, theothorakis music and the Aegean Sea. George was an accomplished Photographer who found beauty in sunsets and single snowflakes. He was in the midst of cataloging his photos taken during his travels throughout the world. He also enjoyed using his photos to create oil paintings. George was a very proud and supportive father taking great joy in Demetra's academic, professional, linguistic and aesthetic accomplishments. To many of you he expressed his pride of Nikki's worldliness , knowledge and energy. He appreciated her ability to run a proper traditional greek home in todays world while being an accomplished professional. He took pleasure in carving a perfect Thanksgiving Turkey and was delighted by Nikki and Demetra's Greek culinary expertise. He often questioned Nikki's passion for watching Mega and Antenna TV. George was also human. Many of us know that at times George could be stubborn, opinionated, and demanding! But never without a valid reason. He kept his emotions to himself and often gave the impression of being aloof and yet he was in tune and sensitive to all around him. In the past few years, he fought a rare, horrible, and devastating disease with humility and perseverance while trying to shelter and not to burden his wife and daughter. The past few days have brought a pouring of communication from around the world and it has become apparent that his death will leave a void in the lives of all who came in contact with him. In the words of a samian elder, our lives will continue, we will laugh drink, dance, and celebrate together although he will not be with us physically he will indeed be smiling down at us. Nikki and Demetra wish to thank there ever present and extended support system who have sustained them this week and throughout George's illness. Once again for those who were not with us last night please know that while we join here at Holy Trinity family and friends have simultaneously gathered in Samos, at Megaly Panagia in Tinos and at St. Dionysios in Athens, Jerusalem and Shanghai to pray and honor George's memory.
