Obituary of Jean Satos

Jean Satos, born Jean Marian Thomas on April 10, 1925, went home to the Lord at the age of 94 on April 26, 2019. She passed away at Citadel Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in the Bronx. Jean was born in New York City to Martha Thomas and her maternal grandparents, Susana and George Thomas were very active in her upbringing. Jean was a dedicated daughter to her mother, Martha and protective big sister to her younger sisters, Carol (also known as Sharon) and Marian. Jean mourned the passing of her beloved husband, Peter Satos in 1991. Since the age of 15 years old, Jean worked as a waitress, including the famous Sarge’s Delicatessen and Diner in New York City. She enjoyed serving and entertaining people and was quite popular with many of her customers. Jean’s passion was not to just wait on tables; she went out of her way to make people laugh and for this reason, she became an iconic figure at Sarge’s Deli. Had it not been for a fire at Sarge’s in 2012, she would have loved to continue working. At the age of 87, Jean finally retired her apron. Jean is survived by her sister, Marian, her nephews, Steven, Greg and David, and her nieces, Lisa and Tina. Her contagious smile and feisty personality will be missed. Viewing will be held, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 2pm- 8pm at Riverdale Funeral Home,5044 Broadway, New York, NY 10034.
