I met Dee Dee as a young child when my family and I lived in 11 Fort George Hill. Dee Dee was kind, nurturing, and graceful. I fondly remember her telling us grand stories and tasting her delectable baked goods. I pray she finds eternal peace with God and I am blessed to have known her for all these years. We love you Dee Dee - Dawn, Joel, Josh, Julie, Roy

I knew the Darbasie family from my youth in Mt Lambert, Trinidad. Farley was my best friend. Cynthia and Dan and their daughter Dianne embraced me with love. Curtis was a late arrival. Cynthia was a warm lovely person, generous and kind. She opened her home to me and her good nature always made me feel welcome. May she rest in peace.

Q: What 3 words best describe Cynthia and why?
A: Deedee( big sister) was a special person full of love for people especially the young ones. She was very young at heart. Loved music, cooking and entertaining. Deedee was a great singer. Me and my children were lucky to have enjoyed her tasty roti and food. My children remember her baking birthday cake for them when they were young and bringing to our apartment. My son who is a Mets fan remember talking to Deedee about Mets . I Used to enjoy going for long walks with Deedee . When I was going through some health issues Deedee said you will be fine and that took away all my worries like magic.Deedee is blessed with loving family members and friends. We love you !!!! We will miss you!!!!Rest in peace!!!!

Q: What will you never forget about Cynthia?
A: What a warm, caring and loving woman. I have never forgotten the day we met. It was at the wake of my sister. It seems like yesterday instead of July 2001. You and Diana were so caring and loving. I will miss our phone conversations especially during baseball seasons. You were a passionate Mets fan and I a Yankees fan. It was always a warm conversation. I know that you were a great mother. I have met with all of your children. You did a great job. I pray that the Lord provides comfort to your family.

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Cynthia Darbasie. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time.
As her physical therapist, I had the privilege of working with Cynthia for some time, and I truly came to admire her strength and resilience. Despite the severe arthritis and the pain that often limited her mobility, she never once allowed it to stop her. Her determination to push through every exercise, to keep going despite fatigue, was nothing short of inspiring. Her spirit, even in the face of such struggle, was unbreakable.
I also fondly remember our spirited conversations about baseball. As a lifelong Yankees fan, I often found myself on the opposite side of her loyalty to the New York Mets. Those exchanges were always filled with passion, laughter, and respect.
Cynthia’s kindness and generosity always shone through, even when she was weak, struggling to breathe, and in pain. Every time we finished our sessions, despite her own fatigue, she would make sure to offer me a bottle of water and two chocolates for my way home. Those small gestures of love and thoughtfulness meant so much to me, and I will always treasure them.
She taught me more than she may have ever realized—about enduring hardship with grace, treating others with kindness regardless of your circumstances, and living with dignity and warmth.
I am forever grateful for having had the chance to know Cynthia. She was always incredibly kind and generous to me, and I felt truly honored to be a part of Cynthia’s journey. She will be missed dearly, but her spirit, her strength, and her kindness will remain with me forever.
Please know that Cynthia Darbasie and her family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
Charles Morano

Q: How did you meet Cynthia?
A: I was a newly appointed principal of PS128M and Cynthia was a second grade teacher at the school. As I passed by her class, Cynthia called me to enter . She introduced herself and her students. Cynthia told me something special about each child . When she finished, she gave me a big hug and welcomed me to the school. That was the beginning of a long friendship and the routine of morning hugs.
Professionally, Cynthia was a master teacher excelling in providing for the academic and emotional needs of her students. Her greatest strength was her love for the children and their families. I believe her faith and her belief in the potential of every child to succeed, made a positive difference in our community. Cynthia exemplified the best in education.
We were blessed by her presence on earth and the love she shared with us. Now she rests in God's arms watching over us.
