Joaquin de los Santos Román Borges, was born in Bayamo, Cuba on November 1st, 1935. He was the oldest of 3 children born to his parents Jose Joaquin Romàn and Ana Gloria Borges. He spent a happy childhood in the buxom of his family.
His first studies were in public school in Bayamo, Cuba,he then studies graphic arts specializing in linotype in the technology school of Ceiba del Agua in Havana. After graduating, he worked at the “Orientación” newspaper in Manzanillo,Cuba. Later he worked at the Romàn print shop in Bayamo, in which he worked alongside his father who owned the shop.
In 1958 he married Olga Ojeda, whom he’d known since childhood, they remained married 65 years. They had two daughters, Adis Alina and Alicia Lourdes
He left Cuba along with his family in 1969 heading to Spain where he lived for four years. There he worked in a print shop mostly as a linotypist, progressing to computers in their infancy. He made many friends and visited many areas while in Spain. He arrived in NewYork, USA 50 years ago. He worked for 35 years in the print shop Hispano America
He has five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. His sons-in-law Raul and Paul were as his own sons. Every member of his family had a special place in his heart.
He enjoyed his life traveling and doing all things he loved; such as being a member of his lodges. He was a member of the Logia Bayamo, Masons lodge. While in USA, he was a member Hispano American lodge #233 and Hispano American Rebekah lodge #113 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows , he served in numerous positions in all the institutions above.
He has been loved and admired by all who knew him.
Joaquin de los Santos Roman entered into rest on March 5, 2024.
Visitation will be at the Riverdale Funeral home, 5044 Broadway New York, NY 10034 on Friday March 8 2024 from 5pm to 9pm.
Burial will be at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, 255 Main Ave, Clifton, NJ 07014 on Saturday March 9, 2024 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Heart Assocation, Saint Judes Church or the Cancer Foundation/Hodgekins Lymphoma.
