AIDA PEREZ - Obituary
Aida Gabriela Perez ( Hernandez Salgueiro) was born in Union de Reyes, Matanzas, Cuba on March 18, 1933 in a loving tight knit catholic family, the 7th of 8 children, Growing in a large strong family was a challenge, but somehow she manage to be the sister that they all loved and the favorite aunt to all her nieces and nephews.
A very attractive young woman, she caught the attention of Perez (Bartolome) and on July 29, 1962 they married. Their marriage was a story of love, commitment, faith, sacrifice and endurance that survived many tribulations.
The one constant throughout her life was her faith and her commitment to serve in the church. As a young lady in La Habana she was an active member of La Juventud Catolica. Later on as a mother she continued to be active as a Catechism Instructor. And what a joy it was to her to find out that where she will settle in New York City for 44 years, was just a few steps of St. Jude Church. St. Jude became her second home, her children knew that if they couldn't find her at home, just need to call to the rectory and she would be either helping count the Sunday offering, preparing the church for mass, sewing the minister's habits.
Her charisma, her positive attitude and willingness to always help gave her the greatest joy and the gift of the love of many. in her community and in her family. Always the life of the party, even in her last years she would dance in her wheelchair or move her body whether there was music or not. She was always ready to have a good time with family and friends
She is survived by her children, Aida Maria and Jesus, her grandchildren Logan and Pacey, her sister Laura and her brother Radames. She is also survived by many that loved her dearly, and were an intrical part of her life: her nieces, her nephews, her goddaughters, a few adoptive grandchildren and by our dear Mi Genteeeee Familia.
