Obituary of Linda Cheatham
Linda Sue Cheatham, Died December 21, 2023.
Born Linda Sue Taber, July 29, 1948, on Staten Island, she passed away peacefully in her home in Manhattan, NY. Linda was the beloved mother to Justin and Tavius, mother-in-law to Allie, and Grandmother to Henry and Josephine. Daughter of Elsie and Eugene Taber who preceded Linda in death. Youngest of 7 siblings, Linda is survived by her brothers, Richard and Donald Taber, and sister, Phyllis Gulino. Linda will be welcomed to heaven by her sister Gerri and brothers Eugene and Charles.
After graduating from St. Louis Academy High School on Staten Island, and attending Fisher College in Boston, Linda fulfilled her lifelong dream by moving to Manhattan where she began her professional career as a bookkeeper, was married, and soon began raising her two boys on the doorsteps of Columbia University. Linda was dedicated to being a loyal friend and active community member who was always willing to listen and give honest advice. Linda selflessly served on her building’s Tenants Board during the early 1980s and served as a teaching assistant for aspiring medical workers, teaching and working closely with a tight-knit group of women, many of whom became Linda’s best friends until her last days.
From an early age, Linda had a desire to become an artist. After many years of being a wife, mother, and career woman she successfully returned to school to pursue her passion. Taking evening and weekend classes, she graduated with her BA from the City College of New York as an Art Major in 1997. During the years after that, Linda went on to practice her passion for wood sculpture design, music, the arts, and travel until she was no longer physically able.
Spending time with her friends and large family was always a high priority for Linda. She especially loved her times at the Jersey Shore with her sister Gerri and other family members who would gather there in the summers and for holidays. She will be missed…
A wake will be held Friday, December 29th from 3pm to 7pm at the Riverdale Funeral Home in Manhattan (5044 Broadway). On Saturday, December 30th Linda will be peacefully reunited with her parents and other family members in burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Staten Island. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 101 Cromwell Ave, Staten Island at 11:00 AM.
