Edna “Luella” Lappas

December 2, 1927 – October 17, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edna “Luella” Lappas. She was a beloved mother to her three sons, grandmother to seven, great-grandmother to three, and a pillar of strength to us all. She peacefully transitioned to the next chapter of her eternal journey on October 17, 2023, at the remarkable age of 95, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 2, 1927, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Luella lived a life of love for her family and faith. She was a remarkable woman whose legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Thomas “Thanash” Lappas in 1998. Her memories of their letter-writing relationship during WWII are part of Tom Brokaw’s book, “The Greatest Generation.”

Throughout her long and fulling life, Luella touched the lives of countless people at her church, at the schools she worked at, and in the communities in which she lived. She was a source of inspiration to many, and her enduring spirit served as a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Luella was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also an active member in everything she was involved with, from PTA President at St. Spyridon to Women’s Philoptihos at both St. Spyridon and at Ascension Greek Orthodox Church. She was smart, organized, and willing to work.

Luella’s most prized possessions were her three sons. She was so very proud of all their accomplishments.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire generations to come. Luella is survived by her three sons, Constantine (Susan), Stephan (Harriet), and John (Maria), her seven grandchildren Justin (Christine), Kristen (Russell), Peter (Emily), Alexandra, Thomas, Olivia (William), Stephen, and three cherished great-grandchildren Benjamin, Zoey, and Gabriella. They will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us remember her with a smile, for her life was a tapestry of beautiful moments, a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit.

May her Memory be Eternal.
