Obituary of Victor Romero

Victor Romero of Inwood, New York passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the age of 89. After several months of declining health, Victor died peacefully with his beloved wife Ada and their children by his side. 

Victor was born in Barahona, Dominican Republic on June 3, 1934, to father Leonidas  Romero and mother Inginia Romero Cuevas. He was one of nine children.

Victor arrived in America in 1964 in search of the American Dream he was later accompanied by his wife and three of his four children. A tailor by trade, he worked in the garment district and eventually opened his own business providing tailoring services to his beloved Inwood community.

Having been in the Naval forces in his native country, Victor never lost his love for the ocean and very much enjoyed swimming. With his calming nature and soft-spoken way, he taught his children, and most of his grandchildren how to swim.

Victor was committed to his church, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs and he cared deeply for his community. He served as a Minister de la Caridad, visiting the sick in hospitals and a Cursijista ministering to married couples.

A loving father and doating grandfather, he will be greatly missed.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Rafael Romero, Rodolfo Romero, Panchita Romero, Linda Romero, and Ernesto Romero.

He is survived by his wife Ada Romero; children Victor H. (Mirtha) Romero, Miggie (Elvis) Reyes, Ada (Jonathan) Levine and Jose (Dana) Romero; grandchildren Dexter Romero, Andrew Levine, Russell Romero, Joshua Reyes, Ashley Reyes, Alan Levine, Victoria Romero, Jarrett Romero, Declan Romero; siblings Luis Romero, Socrates Romero, Hilda Romero.

A visitation for Victor is planned for Thursday, August 3rd, 2023, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The visitation will be at the Riverdale Funeral Home on 5044 Broadway, New York, NY. All are invited to attend.  A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, 91 Arden St, New York, NY on Friday, August 4th, 2023 at 10am. Immediately followed by Interment at Oakland Cemetery, 2 Saw Mill River Rd, Yonkers, NY,
