My deepest condolences to all of Doug's family. My Dad was a colleague of Doug's at Dalton, where I was also a student. We all shared a love for hockey, and we were passionate about, of all things, playing floor hockey on the gym floor. As students, we were all, of course, in awe of Frenchy's hockey abilities, even if it was not on ice and with plastic sticks and pucks. We formed an intramural hockey league (my Dad was the "commissioner"), and even had a faculty team, where Frenchy was the star. I will never forget playing against him one time when he had a breakaway on me (I was a goalie), and I actually stopped him. It was the greatest moment of my floor hockey "career," but Doug glared at me in a way I will never forget. My Dad also hired Doug to work as the swim instructor for the Dalton Summer Camp, teaching very little ones (5-10 years old) how to swim, very different from the more competitive approach he took as my high school phys ed teacher. I was Frenchy's assistant in the pool, and we spent many hours each day in the cold water, waiting for campers to come for swimming throughout the day. I very much enjoyed my time being friends with Doug. He was fun, caring, a great friend and colleague, and I missed him when he left Dalton. With deepest sympathy. - Paul Grossman

Please accept my deepest sympathy in your loss of Doug. I worked with Doug at the Lions Swimming pool in Espanola: he was one of my lifeguards and was very diligent. We also had a lot of fun. His mom was at the pool all the time as were his brothers.
