Obituary of Benjamin Ybera

Benjamin (Benny) J. Ybera was born on September 4th 1958 in New York City. 

   Benny was known for his strong love and loyalty to his family and friends, great sense of humor, his passion for sports and his love for New York City.  He was a loving husband, father, brother and son.       

   Benny was a proud New Yorker through and through.  He was a life long Mets fan, and overall sports fanatic; he loved movies, comic books (most especially Spider-Man).  He attended school, played stickball and basketball in the neighborhood he grew up in. He also met the love of his life Petra when he was 16 years old. They were married and had two daughters, named Alina and Marijke.

   Benny was able to fulfill a dream of his, opening a comic book shop in the Bronx.  Later he became a public safety officer for Columbia University, and would serve his community for 37 years. He also served as Shop Steward for many years, advocating for his peers and implementing many important contract perks. 

  After 4 long years battling cancer,  while surrounded by family and friends, Benny passed away on November 17, 2022.  

   Benny is survived by his beloved wife, and his two daughters. He was a loving father to his two daughters, cherished brother of Tina DiPalma.  Adored Uncle of Christopher, Daniel, Spenser, Alejandro, Brianna, Johnny, Evelyn, Ursula, and Isabelle.  He is also survived by relatives Karin, Rebecca, José, Sebastian, Amber and Luis.

   Though this is a significant loss for all who knew Benny the beautiful times shared and  memories we have are immeasurable.  He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Riverdale Funeral Home, 5044 Broadway, New York, NY 10034
