Obituary of Marie Coleman

Marie Frances Theresa Coleman, age 89, of Inwood, NY passed away peacefully at her home on October 6, 2022.   Marie was born on February 12, 1933 in Manhattan, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Coleman of County Galway, Ireland.

Marie was a loving aunt and is survived by nine nieces and nephews, Michael and his wife, Colette Coleman of Westford, MA; Kevin and his wife, Haixing Coleman of Sudbury, MA; Mary and her husband, Dan Fernandez of Wyckoff, NJ; Joseph and his wife, Kathy Coleman of New Hartford, CT; Robert and his wife, Patti Coleman of Carol Stream, IL; Nancy and her husband, Kevin Columbia of Skillman, NJ; Eileen and her husband, Kurt Tiefenthaler of Westport, CT; Veronica and her husband, Luke Ziccardi of Maricopa, AZ; and Brenda and her husband Tom McKeon of Sayville, NY.  Marie will also be missed by her many grandnieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased in death by her brothers Michael J. and Thomas P. Coleman, and her nephew Thomas A. Coleman.

Marie was a great friend to many, and especially cherished her friendships with the entire McGowan clan, her beloved and dedicated friends Marie and Billy Maher, as well as with her Boston cousins, the late Mae Malloy and Kay O’Sullivan.

Marie was a longtime parishioner of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Inwood. Following her retirement from Equitable Life Insurance Company, Marie held a number of volunteer positions with the church and school, teaching CCD and helping in the library. She also volunteered at a church run shelter.

Marie will always be remembered and missed for her endless generosity, love of ballet, great sense of humor, the way she enjoyed a good party, and all things Irish.

Friends and family will gather at the Riverdale Funeral Home, 5044 Broadway NY, NY  on Wednesday October 12, 2022 from 4-8 pm .Her funeral Mass of will be celebrated on Thursday October 13 10am at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 4967 Broadway, NY, NY.  Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hackensack, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Good Shepherd, New York Province Center, 21-30 21^st Avenue, Astoria, NY 11105.
