Obituary of Rafael M Lopez

Rafael M Lopez passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022 at the age of 88 in White Plains, New York. He was born into a family of twelve siblings on August 22, 1933 to Rafael and Emelinda Lopez in the Dominican Republic. He is survived by his wife Hilda, his four daughters; Rafaela, Ana, Maritza and Monica, his son Raphael Lopez and seven grandchildren. He came to the United States in 1969; his wife and children joined him later in New York. He sacrificed everything to send his five children to college and instill in them the values of getting an education in order to live a better and more meaningful life. His life was shaped by his faith in God and his love for his family; he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He believed wholeheartly that life is lived better, happier and more impactful when you surround yourself with people and do good to store treasures in heaven. He understood that blessings are best enjoyed when we share them with the less fortunate. He would seek out the names of people, known and unknown, and shared with them the fruits of his blessings. He always believed that if you give, you would receive in return; if you sacrifice, you shall be rewarded tenfold. He loved to spend the winter months in his native country surrounded by family, friends and neighbors, who would come to visit and trade time and stories while drinking coffee and playing dominoes. He loved a great meal, but felt that the flavors were always better when good company sat at the same dinner table. He loved to sing, dance and tell stories of his childhood. He was a simple man and lived modestly, but the impact of his love and kindness was immense and created the footprints for us who loved and knew him to follow. The journey of his life left countless impressionable memories; we will carry them in our hearts as we continue honoring and remembering his life. A celebration of Rafael’s life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. John Baptist Catholic Church, 670 Yonkers Ave. Yonkers, New York.
