When I moved to NYC thirteen years ago, I had the good fortune to move into an apartment down the street from Nancy Whiskey. Knowing no one, the regular crew at the time became my family. Billy welcomed me like family, because that’s who he was. I don’t get downtown much any more and only recently stopped in to sadly learn of Billy’s passing. It was like a part of my past died too. Billy had the unique ability to have such a positive, profound affect on so many people. What a life well lived. May God bless the Wall family. Godspeed Billy

I had the pleasure and honor of working with Bill as he navigated various compliance issues as a small-business owner in NYC. He was always in good humor, always a gentleman, always optimistic and always warm and kind. He was one of my favorite clients and someone I considered a friend. When our wedding celebration was cancelled due to the pandemic - my first thought was to Bill. Why you ask? Because he was going to cater our wedding with Saluggi's brick oven pizzas! Rest in Pease, dear Billy - you touched my heart.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center, all businesses in the area were ordered closed. Billy opened the doors of the Nancy Whiskey Pub to all in the area. He wasn't allowed to sell anything so he gave drinks away to any who came in. Most of the folks who came in were emergency first responders or were working on the pile. Not a dime was allowed to cross the bar and Billy stayed behind the stick. There's a Police Department plaque on the wall recognizing his efforts to support all who worked in those first terrible days. God bless all in this house.

Billy, you’ll be missed …. Always stood up for the Inwood causes and people… I remember you and your sister Marilyn moving to our upper Inwood neighborhood…you were the new kids…therefore, we got to hang out and play on the “steps” across from the old NY Telephone Building on B’way…fun…wonder what year that was?! God Bless You Billy and your family and God speed you to the Heavens.

Billy “Paper” Wall was the Epitome of ones “Character Does Matter” Each of us have a unique combination of strengths and values. Billy was thoughtful, caring, honest, fun, generous and so much more to so many. A true life Damon Runyon Character we all loved. I have known Billy for over 50 years. He worked for me as a bartender and was fantastic. We became dear friends and when it came time to sell Nancy Whiskey, I wanted him to have it. He, of course, made it more successful than ever. His charm, sense of humor and understanding of the business were all part of his formula for success. Our friendship continued until now. I was planning on seeing him when I visited New York City this summer I loved Billy and I’m devastated by his death. He was a fabulous human being and friend. Toni Hanley

My deepest condolences to the family of Billy Wall. Billy and I became friends the first time I walked through the door of the Nancy Whiskey Pub around 50 years ago. That was his way. Over the years he poured me many a drink. I eventually tended bar part time and he was the night man. I worked for him when he bought the place and he was a great guy to work with and for. We remained friends when I transferred out of the city and we often got together for a chat. When I retired we'd get together in Nancy's when I visited and in Garry Owens out at the beach where I lived. He was always ready for a chat and a laugh. His generosity of spirit will never be forgotten. Billy was absolutely worth knowing. God bless all in this house.
