Obituary of Theodora L. Crist

Please share a memory of Theodora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Theodora Lillian Crist passed away on Tuesday November 16 peacefully in her home with her family by her side. She is survived by her daughter Yasmine, her beloved grandchildren Costa and Khloé, her brother James, her cousin Theodore , along with many other cousins and godchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Armen J. Mirakian as well as her brother Gus Christ.

Theodora was born in New York City in 1946 to Anastasios and Vasiliki Christ . She attended Lehman college and received her Master’s degree in early childhood education from Hunter College .
After teaching at All Souls Nursery  school and International preschools  in Manhattan she went on to be the director at nursery school at The Henry street Settlement. She then decided to take on the position as Director of St. Ignatius Loyola Day Nursery .This became her Life’s work for her 30 year tenure at the Nursery . During that time she helped to transform the school from a  struggling neighbourhood nursery to a vibrant, prestigious place of early childhood learning . The nursery , during her time there, was a place where  everyone felt the warmth of her spirit and her love of teaching and learning . Over the many years the Nursery community became  a family under her guidance. Everyone  that met Theodora  always felt that she gave without measure and had a fire in her spirit . She enjoyed cooking; was an avid opera fan , loved to dance , and was elated to be such  an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives.

The gap that she will leave in all of our lives and hearts is immeasurable. May her memory be eternal .
