Evelyn, born third of eleven siblings, left Cape Breton at age 17 and moved to the Big Apple to stay with her Aunt Sue who sponsored her US residency. She met the love of her life and married Maurice Egan on July 20, 1968 and raised their son Michael, whom they adored and loved dearly. Evelyn never forgot her Cape Breton roots, making yearly pilgrimages home every summer for lobster boils, boat rides, car rides around the Cabot Trail, bonfires and dances with family and many visits to relatives' homes with copious mugs of steaming black tea and homemade cooking. Evelyn was always connected to her beloved mother, Mary Grace with weekly letters and phone calls.
