Obituary of Eileen Maxwell Canty

Eileen Maxwell Canty entered into rest on Monday, August 23, 2021. 

Loving wife of the late James J. Canty, Jr., devoted mother of Anne (m. Victor Quintana, grandson Carlos, m. Natalia Ortiz, great grandchildren, Amaya and Maceo), the late Kate, James III (m. Mary Herel, granddaughters Katie and Christina), and Ned (m. Karen Shepherd), daughter of the late Edward G. Maxwell and the late Anne (Morahan) Maxwell, sister of the late Edward G. Maxwell, Jr. Beloved cousin and friend of many.

Former faculty member of Seton Hall University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and College of New Rochelle.  Organizational psychologist and Human resources professional at ITT, New York Hospital, and William Mercer.  Former Board member of the YWCA Academy of Women Achievers, Friends of the Creche, and Morningside Health and Retirement Services.

Eileen was born in Manhattan and raised in the Bronx, where she attended elementary school and high school at St. Simon Stock.  She received her B.A. in math from the College of New Rochelle and her Masters and Ph.D. in psychology from Fordham University.

She made community everywhere she ever lived, including her recent homes in Morningside Gardens and Marion, Massachusetts.

Viewing will be held at Riverdale Funeral Home, 5044 Broadway, New York, NY 10034 on Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 3PM - 5PM and 7PM to 9PM..  

Funeral Mass wil be held on Friday, August 27, 11 AM at Corpus Christi RC Church, 529 West 121st Street, New York, NY 10027
