Obituary of Adam James Damascus

Adam James Damascus passed away on February 6, 2019. Beloved Husband of the Late Penelope. Loving Father of James Adam (Deborah) Damascus, Kerry Adam (Pamela) Demascus, Dennis Adam Damascus and Peter Adam Damascus. Adored Grandfather of Dr. Alexi Maria Damascus, James Christ Damascus, Dominique Theodora Gesualdi, Demetri Adam Demascus, Stephanie Georgia Demascus, Paul Kerry Demascus, Teodora Panagiota Damascus and Vasilia Panagiota Damascus. Cherished Great Grandfather of Roland James Damascus, Alessandra Liliana Nedeltchev, Gabriel Kamen Nedeltchev and Helen Grace Damascus. He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Adam was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in New Rochelle and a member of the Church Greek Orthodox Men’s Order of the AHEPA . A 1965 past President of The Ardsley Little League, Member of the Ardsley Kiwanis Key Club, A Member of The New York Athletic Club and a long time successful Real Estate Manager. Adam was a Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, Relative and friend who loved to fish, spend time at local military bases where he would mentor new recruits about real life war experiences, and spend time with his family.
Adam was drafted into the U.S. Army out of High School and spent a long impressive stretch of his life as a member of the 29th Division 115th Infantry 1st Battalion. He landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day Invasion and participated in the lead assault in the Battle of St. Lo. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic actions during active battle. He was then wounded at the Battle of Saint-Germain-sur-Sèves for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. He soon returned to active duty and fought in the Battle of The Bulge and fought continuously until the end of the war. After the Raid on Schierwaldenrath near Gangelt, Germany, Adam received a battle field citation for promotion to Technical Sergeant. In April 2006 Adam was named a “Chevalier” of the Legion of Honor by the President of the French Republic. Adam’s and his generation’s courage and bravery during WWII provided freedom for millions of people for generations to come. Adam IS A TRUE WAR HERO!
Friends and Family will be gathering for Viewing at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 10 Mill Road, New Rochelle, NY 10804 on Tuesday February 12, 2019 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM Funeral Service will follow at the Church at 11:00AM. The Interment will take place at a later date where he will be laid to rest with Penelope at Arlington National Cemetery.
