Please share a memory of Steven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
April 29, 1964 - August 19, 2016 NEW YORK, N.Y. — Steve Juergens, 52, died Aug. 19, 2016, in New York City, where he had lived since 2000. Steve was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., and grew up in Bloomington, Ind., the son of George and Jane Juergens. A 1982 graduate of Bloomington High School South, he was president of his class. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Northwestern University in 1986. Complementing his studies at Northwestern, Steve appeared in several NU Department of Theatre-produced plays. He remained in Chicago after graduating, working in Northwestern’s financial aid office while acting with a number of Chicago theater companies, including The Next Theater, Court Theater and Chicago Shakespeare Company. Steve moved to New York City in 2000 and appeared in several plays on the Hartford Stage and in the city. In recent years, Steve worked for The Doe Fund and Geel Community Services in New York and played baseball in New York City’s Metro Baseball League. Steve was a fierce debater and a witty friend. He loved playing and following baseball as much as he enjoyed settling in with a well-written book. He followed politics closely. He is survived by his brother, Paul Juergens, and sister-in-law Diane, of Little Rock, Ark., nephew Michael and niece Caitlin, and friends from his much-too-abbreviated life. Steve was preceded in death by both parents and his aunt, Louise Juergens. A casual memorial gathering for Steve will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, in his New York City neighborhood.
