Jeanette Wind was born in the Inwood section of upper Manhattan on October 3, 1941 to Josephine (Narkin) Wind and Joseph F. Wind.  Sister to Dolores and Joan, She was the youngest of 3 daughters.  They lived on Sherman Avenue with their mother, grandmother, and grandfather.  Jeanette went to Good Shepherd School - graduated in 1944 and she and her good friend, Betty, wen to Cathedral High School, St. Joseph’s Commercial Branch in Greenwich Village and graduated in 1959.  She is remembered by classmates as being kind, considerate, witty, and thoughtful.  Jeanette would always invite the new girl in class to sit with her and her friends at lunch time or any school activities.  She did not want anyone to be left out.  She kept close ties with her classmates and attended multiple reunions over the next decades.

Jeanette always had a desire to help other people.  She became a Postulant in the Dominican Order of nuns in Sparkill, NY where she spent time with them until she decided that the religious life was not her calling.  She felt she could help others in a different way and eventually went to Bronx Community College where she received her nursing degree in 1975.

Jeanette started her Nursing career at Cabrini Health Center in New York City in 1975.  There she met a fellow new nurse, Bridget, and they became fast friends ever since.  Jeanette held various nursing positions at many facilities including Calvary Hospital, NYCMTA, and finally the FBI New York Office where she entered on duty in 1991.  Over the next 24 years she worked as an Occupational Health Nurse in the Health Service Unit (HSU) and with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Jeanette was tough but always generous with her time.  She knew the right doctor to send you to if you were sick.  If you had a personal problem she would help you to see what course you should take to seek the proper care.  She gave assistance to agents and support personnel during critical incidences such as Flight 800 and the events and aftermath of 911 to name a few.  Jeanette was always there.  Her co-workers, whether they were agents or support were part of her family and she treated them as such.  If you had a problem or a celebration, Jeanette was the one to see.

She could be witty, charming, and generous while giving sage advice.  A co-worker once complained to Jeanette about her boss saying he was unfair and down right nasty.  What should she do?  How should she approach this?  Jeanette’s immediate response in a calm tone - Would you ever invite him over to dinner?  Co-worker answer No.  Jeanette said - then stop worrying about it.  And then they talking about how her co-worker might handle the situation.

Jeanette spent her life helping others through financial assistance, listening to what others had to say, giving good advice and recommendations for needed care, just to name a few.  She would literally give you the shirt off her back if you needed it.  But most of all Jeanette was a friend to all.  She would just come unexpectedly to occasions that were happy and sometimes sad.  Almost like a Guardian Angel who magically appears to give love, support, and solace as the situation requires.

Jeanette’s grandmother called her Cookie.  that seems to be a good description of Jeanette.  Sweet, Tasty, Loving.

We all have our own memories of Jeanette.  We were lucky to have her in our lives.  We will miss her.  We know she is with her Mom and grandma and grandpa and Dolores now.  We love you.  Be safe Jeanette.  Keep us safe.  God bless you and us.
