Gabriel Arcángel Irizarry
Gabriel Arcángel Irizarry, 74, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026 after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, Gabriel was raised in Washington Heights, New York City, where he developed the values of hard work, humility, and service that would define his life. He dedicated many years of his career to the New York Public Library print shop, earning the respect of his colleagues through his integrity, dependability, and unwavering work ethic.
For more than ten years, Gabriel proudly volunteered as a coach in the Inwood Little League. To generations of young athletes and their families. He will be missed. a coach—he was a mentor, role model, and trusted friend. Throughout the Washington Heights and Inwood communities, he was known for his kindness, patience, generosity, and his genuine desire to help others succeed. His influence extended far beyond the baseball field, and he will always be remembered as an outstanding coach, mentor, and neighbor.
Above all, Gabriel’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving son, Gabriel Arcángel Irizarry III; his loving daughter, Alyssa Gabriella Irizarry; and his cherished granddaughter, Isabella Gabrielle Irizarry-Garcia, who brought him immeasurable happiness and whom he loved with all his heart.
Gabriel also shared an extraordinary bond with his beloved sister, Moraima Irizarry, whose unwavering love, devotion, and strength never left his side. She remained with him throughout his illness and lovingly stayed by his side until his very last breath—a testament to the deep bond they shared. He also leaves behind niece, Andria Reyes and nephew Justin Reyes, niece-in-law Miriam Wilson Reyes and grandnephews, Isaiah Reyes Ethan Reyes and Zackary Romero.
Although Lewy body dementia gradually changed the course of his final years, it never diminished the remarkable legacy of the man he had always been—a kind, selfless, dependable man whose quiet strength and compassion touched countless lives.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gabriel’s life and honor his memory at Riverdale Funeral Home in Inwood, New York City.
Gabriel will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave, the lives he influenced, and the example he set. His legacy lives on in his family, his community, and in the countless people who will always remember him simply as, “Dad, Papá, Tío, Big Gabe and Coach G.”
