Wilbert Lajara Obituary
Wilbert Lajara, 34, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 16, 2026, due to a tragic work accident.
Affectionately known as “Wicho” by his father or "will" close relatives friends, Wilbert was born on June 8, 1991, at Presbyterian Hospital in New York. He was the beloved son of Braudilio Lajara and the late Dominga Reyes.
Wilbert, the oldest of three siblings, graduated from the West Bronx Academy for the Future as salutatorian in 2009. He briefly pursued Health Sciences at Stony Brook University, where he formed several lifelong friendships. After the pandemic, he transitioned from being a glazer in constructions to become an owner‑operator truck driver and, in recent years, worked with various private companies hauling cargo throughout the tri‑state area.
Wilbert had a presence that filled any room—his laughter, charisma, and hardworking spirit were unmistakable. His greatest joy and purpose in life were his three children, whom he loved more than anything in this world. He was a music lover, especially of Mexican corridos, Dominican bachata, and merengue. He also enjoyed cooking and playing dominoes with family. Wilbert’s warmth, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Braudilio (Juan) Lajara; his brother, Braulio Lajara; his sister, Leojani Lajara; and his three children—Kayden (4), Bryson (4), and Byron (2). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Family and friends are welcomed to visitation at the Riverdale Funeral Home, 5044 Broadway NY,NY 10034 on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 4pm to 8pm.
Christian Burial will be at Cementerio Santa Fe, San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic on Monday, April 27, 2026.
