Pearl A Wilkins Obituary
Pearl Wilkins was born July 18, 1935, in South Carolina. She was the oldest of 10 children born to the late William and Edith Robinson. She was affectionately known as “Sister”. Pearl unexpectedly fell asleep in death on Saturday March 14, 2026.
Pearl graduated from Burke Industrial High School in 1954 and came to New York in 1955. Additionally, she also completed training as a Nurse’s Aide. She worked a variety of jobs including seamstress, hairdresser and caring for children. She loved working with children and as a result went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education from Goddard College in 1977. Pearl worked at Day Care centers assisting children in Manhattan as well as in the Bronx. Eventually, she retired as an Assistant Teacher for the Board of Education.
For hobbies and relaxation, Pearl enjoyed knitting, crocheting, dancing and word puzzles. She also loved traveling. One of her favorite trips was to Italy where she enjoyed the food and the many historical sites.
Throughout her life, Pearl endured some critical medical illnesses that many thought she would not recover from. She struggled and refused to succumb to these illnesses. She earned the title, “the bionic woman” because just when an illness was critical, she would come back even stronger!
Unfortunately, she experienced a recent medical crisis that caused her to spend several months in a Bronx Rehabilitation facility. She was discharged this past month and was happy to come home and live with her sister Margie. She was enjoying living in the community once again but sadly passed suddenly without warning.
One of her favorite songs was “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. She would sing it on occasion. This song reflects how she felt about life. She was humble and expressed appreciation for the care given by her family members.
Her parents had named her “Pearl” which truly described her personality. She was beautiful and peaceful on the outside, but tough on the inside. She was direct and spoke her mind freely.
Pearl’s faith was strong. She thanked God for the many blessings she received, including her health, family and children. She will be missed. We look forward to the time that the Bible promises when our loved ones will not be missed. Isaiah 25: 8 tells us that, “he will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.” We look forward to that wonderful time.
Pearl is predeceased by brothers, William Robinson Jr., Augusta Robinson, Eugene Robinson, stepbrother David Miller (Chicken) and her son Anthony Wilkins.
