In Loving Memory of Liza Mary Spates- best known as Nana

Liza Mary Spates, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Centerville, Virginia, at the age of 67.

Born on September 11, 1957, in New York City, Nana spent much of her life in the vibrant communities of Inwood and Washington Heights. There, she created a home filled with love, laughter, and strength — a sanctuary for family and friends alike.

Nana is survived by her five loving daughters: Trinity, Mercedes, Liza, Nefertiti, and Renee. She leaves behind 11 cherished grandchildren — Gerald, Loriza, Isaias, Cheyenne, Lazareth, Sabastian, Emogene, Brooklyn, Leiya, Ramesses, and Nassir — and three treasured great-grandchildren: Sage, Azari, and Astrid.

Nana's life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and unwavering love. She was the heart of her family and a pillar in her community — a source of comfort, wisdom, and joy to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 25th, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Riverdale Funeral Home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable woman.
