Obituary of Nuvia Maal
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nuvia Maal, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her life of work, love for the lord and her fellow human concluded at her home in Manhattan. Nuvia’s presence will be dearly missed, but the love, kindness and generosity she brought into the lives of all she touched, will remain with us forever.
Nuvia was born in Neiba, Dominican Republic to the late Proserpina Duval and the late Fermin Labour. From an early age, Nuvia had a vibrant personality and a strong desire to improve her condition and that of her family. This drove her as a young woman to initially move from her native small town to the capital of Santo Domingo. There she worked for a time until she moved to New York City.
Her aspiration to prosper made her travel to a strange place she did not know at all. She came with a suitcase and the dream of a better life to try her luck. She had to use her innate ability and her wits to overcome all difficulties she encountered. She not only overcame, she was able to better her condition in life and that of her family and many friends.
She was a christian and a faithful servant of God. She was a dedicated member of the Alianza Oasis Church where she attended service. Her devotion to a spiritual life was an example to all who knew her. She reflected her deep love for God and her church.
She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She had an unwavering commitment to her family. Her desire to see them thrive was the driving force in her life. Her legacy is that of an example of a hard worker, generous, selfless, and kind human being.
Nuvia is loved by her son Jonathan, her sisters Antonia and Carla, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She leaves a legion of people who loved her because they were witnesses to her humility and kindness.
While we mourn her loss, we celebrate the remarkable and extraordinary life she lived and the lasting positive impact she had on all of us who knew her.
